I first met Chuck when he and Trish joined our 'wallyball' games in the CU racketball courts. His personality was such that one immediately took a liking to him. Later, Trish left Neodata so she and Chuck could pursue their adventurous life. I got to live vicariously by the letters written to me about their camping and climbing in Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Wyoming... I will never forget Chuck's story of bivouacking off the face of El Capitan. (It takes a lot of skill and nerve to camp/sleep on a rock-face). Through Trish's letters, I followed them through their sailing days. I always remember the stories of Chuck with his snorkeling mask on while navigating some stormy passages; or his diving under the boat to repair it.
But Bruce and I really came to know Chuck through our many golfing games in Longmont and Estes Park. What a skilled golfer! He was so consistent in his game that we all envied him. He even gave me instructions to help with my chipping and short game. When visiting Bruce and me in AZ, he brought us the most beautiful handmade cherry & oak cutting board (still using it!). I also have a couple boxes, two corner shelves, and a picture which he made from wood. What a talented craftsman! Each piece is exquisite.
Chuck was a quiet, gentle man... so caring for others.... and such a pleasure to be around. I will miss Chuck dearly. Golfing won't be the same without him... our first outing this summer will be a tough one. Warning: I may cry.
