Obituary of Rebecca Lamb
Rebecca Lamb (Atkinson)
Rebecca Gene Lamb (Atkinson) of Longmont passed away on March 26, 2022 at the age of 80 at Manor Care in Boulder.
Rebecca was born into a large Baptist family on August 13, 1941 in Kent, Ohio to Bob Garnet and Katiebel (Earle) Atkinson. Rebecca was the sixth of eight children (Garnetta, Rowena, Perdita, Henry, Lloyd, Richard, and Karen) and extended family on a very small farm in Kent, Ohio. She enjoyed running around barefoot, eating fresh berries, and helping with the garden as a child. After graduating from Kent Roosevelt high school in 1959 she met Richard Lamb and the two were married on October 14, 1960. They had four children of their own (Raymond, Ruth, Rodger, and Ronald) all born in Ohio. It was here that she learned about decorating cakes and began doing cakes for friends and family, including a very impressive 50th anniversary cake for her parents. Rebecca and her family moved to Colorado in the spring of 1976.
Driven by her love of family and children, Rebecca became a licensed in-home daycare provider. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s she continued as a daycare provider and became increasingly involved with the Colorado Association of Family Child (CAFCC), becoming a trainer and a National Committee Chairperson. She was awarded the Child Development Associate credential in 1988 and became a Master Provider in 1990. Rebecca filled many rolls within CAFCC including; Historian, By-Laws Chair, and several others. She was also on the Committee for Week of the Young Child working with the Governor’s office and former Colorado First Lady Bea Romer.
Throughout the years she continued to decorate cakes for friends and family and also taught classes for cake decorating. As the millennium turned, Rebecca found her hobby of cake decorating had turned into a fulltime job. She worked for several local retailers not only as a decorator but also continued to teach the art. Rebecca loved to see the customers eyes light up as they picked up their cake, and the happiness she could bring by the simple act of decorating a cake.
Rebecca also enjoyed volunteering at Longmont United Hospital especially in the birth center. However, she found her true calling as her alter ego, Katiebel the Clown. She loved bringing smiles to kid’s faces both young and old. She also volunteered at Longs Peak Baptist church, as her faith was very important to her. Rebecca was an active member of the Red Hat Society and Lady Bugs.
Rebecca is survived by; Children: Raymond (Kim) Lamb, Ruth Lamb, Rodger (Heather) Lamb, and Ronald (Heather) Lamb; Grand Children: Katie Johnson-Forkner, Robert Johnson, Jason (Jamie) Forkner, Kayla Conarro, Kyle Conarro, Michael Lamb, Ashleigh Lamb, Callie Lamb; Great Grand Children: Shaina Johnson, Marcus Johnson, and the Flying Forkners: Mason, Maverick, and Maxton. Siblings: Garnetta White, Rowena Cain, Perdita Andrews, Lloyd (Kim) Atkinson, Richard (Daphne) Atkinson, and Karen Tarr.
